24 Annual San Diego Triathlon Challenge

- Brent Doud

"Involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life."

The above quote is one of the Challenged Athletes Foundation core belief and one of the many reasons why I we have supported them for several years. We believe everyone needs the opportunity to get outside, explore, play games and most of all #HaveMoreFun. We also know that it’s not about the products you purchase from us, but rather the experiences and memories that our products will provide for your family and friends.

This is my 5th year participating in this great event and the second time that I will attempt to conquer the entire triathlon. Please consider donating to this great cause. Use the link below to go directly to my fund raising page for CAF. All funds go directly to CAF.

This year we are stepping up our efforts to raise money for this great cause. We are holding a charity game tournament on September 30, 2017 and you can join in the fun! We will be having the Backyard Olympics charity event at Ski Beach park in San Diego. The event will consist of timed version of Ladder Golf, Cornhole, Bocce Ball and Giant Tumble Tower. We are expecting hundreds of people to enjoy the afternoon of games while raising money for the CAF charity. Click here to purchase your tickets in advance!

This year I will attempt to complete the entire triathlon for my second year. Last year I completed the 1 mile swim, 44 mile bike ride and slowly ran/walked my way through the 10 mile run. This year I plan to train more, but I always say that. Either way... It's an adventure that I am looking forward no matter how much training I am able to fit in.

I will be joining approximately 200 physically challenged athletes and 550 able-bodied athletes, as we complete on one of the most breathtaking courses in the country - all in support of the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

Here is a quick breakdown of my preparation. It's not nearly enough, but it should be enough to get me to the finish line before dark.

  • 7/23/2017 - 40 mile Bike ride followed by a 2 mile run/walk. Trying to work on the bike to run transition so I don't cramp up.
  • 7/30/2017 - 30 mile bike ride followed by a 2 mile run/walk.
  • 8/6/2017 - 10 mile mountain bike ride.

The triathlon on October 22, 2017 is a fundraiser and together we can help people with physical challenges realize their dreams. Your donation will go to the Challenged Athletes Foundation; an incredible 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides funding and inspiration to hundreds of physically challenged athletes each year so they can participate in sports, compete and live life to the fullest.

The money I am raising, and the funds you are donating, will support athletes who can’t always get to the start line: swimmers missing limbs, paraplegics who use handcycles to cycle and runners who race using prosthetic limbs. Just like me, these challenged athletes want to participate in athletics and feel the rush of competition, but they face a major obstacle. They do not lack fitness, desire or skills. It is only a lack of funding that stands in the way of their dreams.

High tech running prosthetics are very expensive. Learning to swim when you lack a limb (or limbs) requires special coaching, and handcycles can cost upwards of $2,500. With our help, challenged athletes can bridge the financial gap and overcome funding obstacles blocking their path to athletic achievement. That is why I am challenging myself to make a difference in their lives. Please partner with me by making a donation through my web site link below. Alternatively, you may send your donation to Challenged Athletes Foundation (9591 Waples Street, San Diego, CA 92121). Join me in making dreams come true for challenged athletes. Give the gift of sports and help get challenged athletes get off the sidelines, and into the game.

Thank you for your support,

Brent Doud
